Coilessan - Arrochar
Continuing down Loch Longside from Ardgarten you will soon come to the site of Coilessan. Near the steading of Coilessan Farm, are the ruins of what was the Meal Mill of the district. It appears to have been the only mill of its kind on Loch Long, and doubtless, from the ample supply of motive power from the Coilessan burn, was probably able to serve a wider district than that of its immediate vicinity.
The rest of the loch side was sparsley populated although there are ruins of hamlets at one time being in existence. Sheep were removed from the Coilessan hills in 1928 to make way for forestry.
