Corriegrogan
- Arrochar
However, although we are now in
an isolated part of the hills you will see the book symbol on the site
of the Corrigrogan School.
The school was started in 1911 to teach shepherd’s children. This was
after Col Macfarlane of Stronafyne, who was a member of the Arrochar
School Board, complained that it was too long for the children to walk
to Tarbet, which they had done for several years. The last teacher in
the school was Hugh Campbell, (Chrissie Fisher’s uncle) he walked from
Tyvechican to below Loch Sloy every day. The school log states ‘that on
some days the teacher was absent because the weather was very stormy and
the burns were so flooded he was unable to cross them’.
