The Back Road - Arrochar
Moving along our
trail from Tighness we come to the back road. This ran from Arrochar up
to Tyvechtican. Church road currently runs from Church Brae at the
Church past the fire station up to the Outdoor Centre on the A83. At the
top of the back road is the War Memorial. Half way along is The
Steadings - this was once stables where the Duke Of Argyll would keep
his horses for the long journeys to and from the Highlands.
The
church marks the bottom of The Back Road. this road used to be the main
thoroughfare from Tyvechtican to Arrochar.
The Arrochar House Hotel originally had it's driveway from the back road down what is now a dirt track to the hotel car park. The original stone gatepost is still visible where the back toad meets the track to the hotel.
