ARROCHAR PRIMARY SCHOOL, TARBET 1900-1950

Primary School at Tarbet

There has always been a school at the site of Clattoch Mhor from 1767. First record of school teacher appears in 1801 when Donald Dewar signed the declaration of faith. He was followed in 1844 by his son A.J.Dewar who taught up until the late 1890’s when Mr. Grierson became head master. Our first photograph is 1905 and we have many photographs from most years following this. The school is still open to this day and on the same site.

IT is thought that Arrochar Primary School is one of the oldest schools in the West of Scotland that has remained on the same location throughout it's history. Our pictures here start at 1950 and work back to 1905.
