The Climbers Of Arrochar - 60's Hogmanays


A collection of cine film footage from the 1960's and 1970's showing local people having fun at Hogmanay parties at Glenloin House including three of Scotland's most famous climbers Ben Humble, Jock Nimlin and David Easson.

Arrochar Screen Test - a film by Ben H Humble 1949


A film made by Ben H Humble in 1959 - it was initially released as part of the film 'Holidays In Arrochar' and shown in the village hall in the early 1950's. It features many of the local children and characters including shop keepers. Possibly the best piece of heritage we have found to date.

A black and white silent film taken by Ben H Humble in 1946. It features John 'Jock' Nimlin, Harry Grant and David Easson climbing some of the peaks of The Cobbler. This film is in part an instructional account of the climbing techniques used.

Stuckgowan House and Loch Lomondside

 

 

 

A black and white silent film taken by the family from Stuckgowan House prior to the second world war. It features many people including paddle steamers, shooting, climbing, walking and sailing.

A black and white silent film taken by the family from Stuckgowan House prior to the second world war. It features many gents at the Tyvechtican Shoot. Barclay Henry can be seen as can the old Village Hall known as The Iron Lung.

The Unveiling Of The Navvies Memorial

 

 

 

A video taken in August 1996 showing the unveiling ceremony of the memorial to the the 37 navvies that lost their lives in this area during the construction of the West Highland Railway between 1890 and 1894.
